Medical Abortion Protocol

I give you the first medication, mifepristone. This medication terminates the pregnancy and prepares the uterus. In most cases, it does not cause pain or bleeding. However, if bleeding occurs, it simply means the medication is working. Taking the following medications (misoprostol) will still be necessary.

You receive other medications: misoprostol. This causes contractions that expel the pregnancy. Take 2 tablets 36 to 48 hours after mifepristone. Bleeding occurs a few minutes to a few hours after taking the medication. Wait at home with the prescribed medications available.

Here is the prescription to help you during the procedure:● Paracetamol: for pain. You can take a maximum of one gram three times a day.● Antarène codéiné: For more severe pain, you can combine it with paracetamol, not exceeding 3 tablets per day.● Prokinyl: to reduce nausea. Misoprostol can cause digestive issues, including nausea. You can take one tablet every 12 hours.● Inofer: This is an iron supplement to reduce the risk of anemia and fatigue following the abortion.● Exacyl: if bleeding is excessive (more than a period). This medication increases blood coagulation to reduce bleeding. It does not interfere with the expulsion of the embryo, so do not hesitate to take it.

Precautions for Medical Abortion

When you take misoprostol to expel the pregnancy, you should be at home or with someone close by. You should be within one hour of a healthcare facility where any potential hemorrhage can be treated.
Avoid being alone, as this phase can be stressful. In case of a problem, having someone with you can be helpful.
